Protecting Your Vines From Drought Stress
Wine Myth: "Grapevines do not need much water, and must suffer stress in order to produce great wines"
This is simply not true!! All plants need water to live and to grow. Areas of southern England receive less summertime rainfall than some winegrowing regions in France and Germany.
Newly planted grapevines have a small root system, which means that they can start to suffer the effects of drought stress quickly in a dry summer.
VSL understands this, and minimises this risk by ensuring that your vines are bedded in with moist soil......
Other planting contractors coming from Europe to work in the UK do not use this apparatus on their machines. This method of baulking soil up along the planting row is extremely effective at slowing down evaporation of water from soil around the vine roots. In doing this, we help your vines get the best possible start in the all important first growing season.
We strongly advise all our clients to water in all newly planted vines, and will help organise or even carry out this task.
